The TM1 transmit module and the RM1 receive module are miniature transmitters and receivers that send and receive data at a rate of up to 4,800 bits per second. These modules are for on-off and pulse applications. They will not send audio or video. They operate at 418 MHz with a range of better than 300 feet and are designed for unlicensed operation under FCC Part 15.

Building a wireless system is easy with these new transmitter and receiver modules. You simply supply a digital data stream, apply power to the transmitter which is SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) based for accurate frequency control and attach an 6.7 inch whip antenna to send data. For the SAW based superhetrodyne receiver which has excellent stability and sensitivity, you also simply apply power and attach an antenna to recover the data stream. Absolutely no adjustments of any kind are required. All of the RF components are encapsulated so no sensitive components are exposed and the circuits cannot be detuned by moving coils or capacitors. Power supply filtering and bypassing is provided on the module by a resistor and tantalum capacitor. The .024 inch square module pins on .1 inch centers can be  soldered in .032 inch round PC board holes or plugged into an inline socket.

Do you need a wireless system for remote monitoring of a process or to control a robot ? Then design and build your own custom wireless system using these modules for the wireless part of your design. Just apply serial data from a microprocessor or use a ED4GP or Glolab GL-104 encoder / decoder IC.

Encoders and decoders offer a simple way to automatically generate serial data to feed into the transmitter and to recover it from the receiver. This technique rejects noise and assures that only valid data will be received and your robot will not become a runaway.
